 structptr->field        indirect reference of structure
 structptr               a pointer to a structure
 field                   any member of the structure

    The -> operator is a convenient shorthand for referencing a field of
    a struct pointed to by a pointer.  It replaces the equivalent--but
    clumsy--expression:

                      (*structptr).member

    Note that member can refer to either data or functions.
