inq_environment (variable)

     Usage: Get a value from the DOS environment.

Parameters: Variable .string. is the name of the variable in the DOS
            environment, in UPPER CASE only.  Blanks are NOT ignored.

   Returns: The corresponding environment variable .string. or the null
            string if not found.
