X-Hacker.org- Comix 3.0 Reference Manual - a seek on an ntx is faster than a seek on a cdx! why? http://www.X-Hacker.org [<<Previous Entry] [^^Up^^] [Next Entry>>] [Menu] [About The Guide]
A seek on an NTX is faster than a seek on a CDX! Why?

With the Btree structure, the leaf pages of the NTX are not compressed and
the leaf pages of the CDX are compressed. It takes more time to process
(seek) on a compressed page.

If the NTX is small enough that all of it can be cached, then it will be
faster. However even if this worst-case for CDX scenario, the difference
should be small.

In virtually all real-world cases, Comix substantially outperforms DBFNTX.
