By pressing the Fields button from the Data Dictionary main
environment, a window, containing a list of all the fields relative to the
structure of the current file, is displayed.

To insert, modify, or delete data relative to the current field the
Ins, Space and Del keys can be used, respectively. The
System-Menu box present in the fields frame allows to activate the same
   options with the mouse.

The properties of the fields of each file are saved in a Symbols file that
contains an alphabetically ordered list of all the fields used in the Data
   Dictionary.

Each defined field can be used within one or more database files. When
inserting a new field, if the name entered corresponds to a field already
entered in the central Symbols file, the properties previously set will be
   shown.

Each field can be assigned a default value, can have a function defined to
perform formal checks on a field or can contain an expression whose value
will be assigned to the field before or after editing. This data can be
entered accessing the environment opened by pressing the Options
button on the field definition frame. The following paragraphs will
explain in detail what has been stated above.

Additional information about the kind of controls that can be performed
on the fields can be found in the Field control chapter.
