To set a 1:N relation, do the following:

. Access the database definition environment by pressing the
Dictionary button from the dBsee main menu.

. Position the cursor in correspondence to the file that will
be associated the 1:N relation (parent file).

. Select and press the Relations button.

. Now activate the Current File and 1:N Relation
       buttons.

. From the list that appears select the TARGET of the
relation, by pressing Enter in correspondence to the desired file.

     . Select the relation index.

It is possible, by using the buttons, to define if the relation is to be
created automatically or manually. In the first case, the system
creates a link between the parent and the child file using all the key
fields of the selected index that are available in both files. If at least
one field is in common, dBsee will ask if a 1:N relation is to be created.

   Automatic creation:

The Automatic creation button will create a relation with standard
   settings.

. Press the Automatic creation button, then the
Confirm button to confirm the creation of the 1:N relation.

   Manual selection:

The Manual selection button allow you to select the fields of the
parent file to use for the search expression of the records of the child
   file.

. Press the Manual selection button.

     . Press the Link button.

. Select the relational field from the parent file.

. Press the Confirm relation button.

The graphical presentation of the relations is updated in reason of the
   insertion of the new relation.

   --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Use the Automatic creation button when the relational fields in the
parent file and in the child file have the same name.
Use the Manual selection button when one or more key fields of the
child file do not exist in the parent file.
   --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Manual selections allow to set, for each key field of the child file,
the field of the parent file that is to be used to create the relation.
The same selection is proposed by the system when the user tries to create
a relation automatically even though the names differ.

When creating the relation with manual selection, a list of key fields is
displayed and a series of buttons are made available. The Create link
button allows to connect the highlighted field to the field of the parent
file. The Unlink button removes the link set with the Link button.
The Edit link button will allow to insert an expression applied to a
   single key.
