X-Hacker.org- dBsee 4.6 - The Library - Norton Guide http://www.X-Hacker.org [<<Previous Entry] [^^Up^^] [Next Entry>>] [Menu] [About The Guide]

. Access the database settings environment by pressing the
Dictionary button from the dBsee main menu.

. Highlight, with the cursor, the file that will be associated
       the 1:1 relation.

. Press the Relations button and then Current File.

. Now press the 1:1 Relation button.

. From the list that appears, select the TARGET relation file
by pressing Enter in correspondence to the desired file.

     . Select the relation index.

It is possible, by using the buttons, to define if the relation is to be
created automatically or manually. In the first case, the system
creates a link between the parent and the child file using all the key
fields of the selected index that are available in both files. If at least
one field is in common, dBsee will ask if a 1:1 relation is to be created.

   Automatic Creation:

The Automatic Creation button creates a relation with standard
   settings.

. Press the Automatic Creation button, then the OK
button to confirm the creation of the 1:N relation.

   Manual Selection:

The button Manual Selection allows to select the fields of the parent
file that will make up the search expression of the records of the child
   file.

. Press the Manual Selection button.

     . Press the Link button.

. Select the relation field from the parent file.

. Press the Confirm Relation button.

The relations scheme has been updated because of the new relation that has
   been inserted.

   --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Use the Automatic Creation button when the relation fields in the
parent file and in the child file have the same name.
Use the Manual Selection button when one or more key fields of the
child file do not exist in the parent file.
   --------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Manual Selection allows to choose, for each key field of the child
file, which field of the parent file is to be used to create the relation.
The same selection is given by the system when the user attempts to create
a relation in automatic when the names are different.

When creating the relation with manual selection, a list of key fields is
displayed and a series of buttons is made available. The Create Link
button allows to connect the highlighted field to the field of the parent
file. The Unlink button disconnects the link set with the Link
button. The Edit Link button allows to insert an expression applied to
   a single key.
