The properties of the fields of each data structure, the definitions of
the functions and variables are uniquely saved, with the appropriate name,
in the Symbols File. Each modification made to a symbol, for instance
the length or description, is automatically made everywhere the symbol is
   used.

The Symbols environment displays, in alphabetical order, all the base
   entities defined. These can be:

     . Fields

     . Variables

     . User defined funtions (UDF)

The creation of a Symbol can come about during the definition phase of the
file structure within the Symbols environment.

The management of each entity as unique Symbols is one of the main
features of dBsee. This eases the definition of the database allowing the
Symbol previously defined to be reused when necessary, transferring at the
same time all the properties and reducing to a minimum errors during the
   maintenance phase of the application.

The Symbol management system offers a clear global view of what has been
defined and guarantees an efficient support of the maintenance phase.

At the left side of each symbol, a LED is displayed, of which the color
can assume three different values depending on the properties. These
   colors are:

. a Red LED indicates that the symbol (a field) is
orphan, i.e. not used in any file.

. a Blue LED indicates that the symbol is associated a
formal control, i.e. the options contain parameters that verify the
contents of the data entered (Data not valid if).

. an Orange LED indicates that the symbol has mandatory
input on the data entry form.
