X-Hacker.org- dBsee 4.6 - The Library - Norton Guide http://www.X-Hacker.org [<<Previous Entry] [^^Up^^] [Next Entry>>] [Menu] [About The Guide]

From dBsee's main menu, with the Application button, the design and
maintenance environment of the application menu is accessed.

The main frame of the Application environment displays the list of
menu labels that will make up the application. Up to 6 hierarchical levels
of branching can be obtained. A specific functionality can be associated
to each label, defined inside dBsee or contained in an external Clipper
program. It is also possible to create labels having the exclusive
function of defining the skeleton of the menu and then, at a later date,
   be associated to other functions.

A numbering system that identifies the order and the level is present on
every menu label. For example, label 2.1 represents label number 1 of
level 2. The main level (1, 2, 3, etc.) identifies the first choice that
appears on the screen (horizontal menu bar in the generated application).

On the left side of these main labels, or of labels that call sub-menus, a
triangular symbol will appear as shown in the previous figure. The
presence of two of these symbols aside of a menu label indicates that
sub-levels have been temporarily hidden with the Zoom function (see
   Maintenance paragraph).

At the left-most side of the labels, a colored LED is displayed, and whose
color depends on the state of activation (active/not active). The Ins
and Del keys allow to change state of the label.

The scroll-right symbol, which, if present, is displayed on the right
side of the label, indicates that a data entry or report management model
has been associated, and that it is possible to access the design mode
   (Design button).

If a menu, like the one indicated in figure 3.2, has been created, the
generated application will display the following screen:

Hot keys

Hot keys are mnemonic keys that allow to directly activate a menu label
without having to select it with the mouse or cursor keys. To associate a
hot key to a menu label, the only step to take is to enter the '^b'
character in front of the selected (hot key) character, inside the
label field present in the definition frame.

In the application, the main labels are activated using the
Alt-Character combination, while in the pull-down submenus, the
labels are selected by simply pressing the Character. For example, the
main label "Files" can be activated by pressing the Alt-F keys. A
label in the pull-down menu opened by "Files", called "Clients", will be
   selected by pressing l.

Shortcut keys

The shortcut keys are keys that allow for activation of the menu label by
pressing a key (or a combination of keys) when the pull-down menus are
closed. A shortcut key is defined by pressing the Key on the
   definition frame.

Activation and visibility

A menu label, during the execution of a generated application, can change
states going from active to not active and viceversa. In dBsee, it is
possible to use all of the activation and visibility combinations (active
and visible, active and invisible, etc.). For this purpose, two properties
are available on the menu labels (using Ctrl-Enter, or, in the
definition frame of the label, the Options button), that indicate the
type of activation (active or not) and the relative visibility mode
   (visible or invisible).

An active and visible label can be normally selected. An active and
invisible label can be accessed only with the associated shortcut key. A
inactivate and visible label is normally displayed but the associated
function cannot be selected. A inactive and invisible label cannot be
accessed in any way by the user.

Modification of the defined settings

To modify the settings relative to any menu label, proceed as follows:

. Position, using the arrow keys, the cursor highlight on the
menu label that needs modification and press Space.

. Enter the modifications and press F10 to confirm.
