X-Hacker.org- dBsee 4.6 - The Library - Norton Guide http://www.X-Hacker.org [<<Previous Entry] [^^Up^^] [Next Entry>>] [Menu] [About The Guide]

After having defined the database, with the files, indexes and relations,
the data entry managements that will make up the application can be
specified. This is called the front-end of the application, the way the
end user interacts with the data. dBsee allows to visually program the
front-end, thus having an immediate impression about the aspect of the
   final application.

dBsee applications consist in data management systems realised by objects
and linked together by a menuing structure. Each object can be defined in
Design mode. For each object defined, the corresponding source code will
be generated in a separate source code file.

To create a new data entry management system, you must do the following:

. From the Application environment press the Menu
       labels button.

. Choose, from the available options the Data Entry
       button.

The Data entry button displays a further set of options. These options
represent the basic types of data entries available in dBsee. It is
possible to define new types of data entry systems. The creation always
assumes the existence of a template file that contains the generation
details and the functional mechanisms for the generated program.

dBsee, by default, proposes four different types of management, giving the
programmer just as many standard solution models for realising the
application, conform to the criteria set in the data dictionary.

The type of management chosen determines the way the user interacts with
the data. There is no special rule in selecting a specific type. The
program's requirements (and the experience) normally make the programmer
   select one above another.

After having defined the data entry management, it is possible to examine
the structure, activating the Objects environment (Objects button)
after having positioned the cursor highlight on the menu label that you
   just defined.

The Objects environment displays, in the upper part of the screen, the
list of the screen pages that make up the management. If the data entry
system defined is of type Browse, the name of the Browse object will
be defined instead. An the bottom part of the screen, a frame containing
the information relative to the highlighted item will be shown.
