 THE ASCII "PROTOCOL"

 In an ASCII transfer, it is as if the sender is ac-
 tually typing the characters and the receiver is just record-
 ing them. There is no form of error detection used. Usually
 only ASCII files can be sent in this way, as binary files con-
 tain characters which would foul-up the screen.
