   carray           Array of colors, dimension is fg.nsimulcolor. The values
                    are between 0 and fg.ncolormap-1.

   max              Max number of entries to read from color_array[]. The
                    actual number of entries read is the lesser of
                    fg.nsimulcolor or max).
