X-Hacker.org- dBsee 4.6 - The Library - Norton Guide http://www.X-Hacker.org [<<Previous Entry] [^^Up^^] [Next Entry>>] [Menu] [About The Guide]

The generated application has the CUA (acronym for 'Common User Access')
standard interface. The main characteristics of this interface are:

The main menu

The Main Menu allows to activate all the Application's Working Sessions
and is relative to the master object of the application. The menu does not
have to be associated explicitely to the start-up object. In fact, the
object that is presented at start-up can be an object displaying list
boxes (Browse or Window) but not having a menu associated.

The menu is always displayed in the upper part of the data entry object.

During the design of the application, the menu can be defined as being
opened, thus displaying the menu with the pull down menu visible, or
closed. In this case, the object only displays the menu bar. This
option is set in the Project-Subprojects-Properties environment.

In the case that the menu is closed, it is necessary to use the
   following modes to open it:

. Pressing the Alt key alone

     . Pressing Alt-Space Bar

. Pressing the Hot-Key asssociated the one of the options in
the main menu. The hot-key is identified by a different color.

. Using the left mouse button, clicking on the desired menu
       option

By default, the menu is displayed closed.

Using the horizontal arrow keys or the mouse, the desired menu titles can
be selected; none of these directly activate a functionality, but open a
second vertical menu (pull-down menu). Each label of this menu can open a
   next pop-up menu.

Using the vertical Arrow keys it is possible to select the available
choices: the working sessions to activate.

Hot-Keys are active and are displayed, within the different menu
options, as letters having a different color. The main menu options can be
activated by pressing the ALT key together with the highlighted
   letter.

The menu labels of the secondary menus (pull-down or pop-up) are selected
using one of the following modes:

. with the menu closed, by pressing the shortcut key
associated to it during the design of the menu (in the open menu they
       are not active)

. with the menu opened, pressing the highlighted letter
       (Hot-key), or

. selecting the label and pressing the Enter key, or

. clicking with the mouse on the menu label

On the botton row of the screen, a contextual message, relative to the
   highlighted choice, will be displayed.

Objects and controls

The different objects defined within the application are displayed as
windows that can be moved and, in most cases, resized. If using the mouse
to move the object, just click on the title bar, and while keeping the
button clicked, move the mouse. When using the cursor keys, activate the
System menu box (Alt-Space Bar) and use the Move option.

All objects of type Window, Browse, frames with lists displayed (like
Shift-F1), etc, can be resized using either the mouse or the cursor
   keys.

Objects have a title and a menu. Each Form object has, or can have, a menu
that allows to, for example, enter into modification on the displayed
data, delete the data and create a new record. The choices of these menus
are usually pre-defined, but the given menu can be implemented or
   modified.

In the upper left corner of the window, a system menu box is displayed
that allows to access, using the mouse or Alt-Space Bar the system
   menu of the window.

Double-clicking on the system menu box corresponds to closing the object,
exactly as if the Esc key is being pressed.

The objects that are displayed contain data and information, displayed in
one or more controls. dBsee allows to use all the controls that are
expected by the CUA interface, from the simple text fields to Pushbuttons
and Combination Boxes. During modification or insertion, the user can
directly interact with these controls to insert the information. Each
control can have specific function keys associated. The list of keys is
displayed pressing Shift-F1, or clicking with the mouse on the KEY
   icon.

In the following, a summary of the main keys available is described:
